The Surgeon's Daughter by Audrey Blake
5.0

The Surgeon’s Daughter – Audrey Blake, a follow up to the first book ‘The Girl in his Shadow’ set in 1840’s we find Nora trying to earn her degree at the University of Bologna having left Horace and Daniel behind in London. It is amazing how far the medical world and women have come in a little under 200 years. This is not just a story of how a female overcomes all the odds, a love story or even overcoming adversity. Some things haven’t changed at all, some women still in 2022 face opposition in the roles they wish to pursue. When it comes to the world of medicine things have changed a lot and it is thanks to the many doctors and other medical people who put their own lives at risk treating and learning all about the many, many things that killed humans which now can be treated. I am sure the patients of these times would have loved to have had the chance to vaccinate their babies and children and the doctors to protect themselves from dying of something as awful as tetanus.
