The Sea in Winter by Christine Day
4.0
Another great Christine Day novel! She is definitely on my list of authors to watch in the future.
Though I slightly preferred her first novel, I Can Make This Promise, this book was still excellent, and I think any reader would enjoy it, regardless of whether or not they belong to the target audience.
I really admire Day's depiction of depression and mental illness here. That's a topic I don't see discussed well in middle grade novels very often, so I appreciate what she has done here. Her author's note at the end was also eye-opening for me, and I would encourage everyone to do more research into the Makah people.
