Congo by Michael Crichton
4.0

I'm all for details. I'm the person, who as a writer, could easily describe a house for a full page - just to get the setting right. And Crichton here just made that attribute of me go down the bus. The last twenty pages disappeared in not more than a couple of minutes.

There is a volcano that is about to erupt and I don't want to know about the futuristic nuclear war details now, sir.

And Amy, oh my sweet Amy. Just on the precipice that my life is a right now - on going down a path as a primatologist - universe shoves this book at my face, "You read this right now". How I wish I could talk to an animal to understand all conceivable thoughts of him/her.

In essence, I just had a realistic trip to Congo and acquired some good facts on the go - just as any good Crichton book does.
