Africville by Shauntay Grant

4.0

The opening spread grabbed my interest. The artwork has a lot of texture and depth and colour, but the opening line "Take me to the end of the ocean" sealed the deal.

I was also excited to learn a piece of Canadian history that I was unaware of. Although the black community of Africville was demolished in 1960, this book succeeds at celebrating the people and the place, historically and today.

I've recommended this book to a few teachers I know, who are excited to read it to their students!
