I loved The Martian— less taken with Artemis— and I think this one was another near-miss for me. I loved the set up and the first part of the book, and then it shifts into a completely different plot than I was expecting— not a bad plot by any means, just not necessarily the kind of book I thought I was getting into. I do think it's well-written, with a flawed and engaging narrator, and as always the science is communicated well. The dual plots— the one focused on the narrator and the one focused more on humanity/the bigger picture— worked well together. Would recommend it but don't think it's really for me.
