i really enjoyed this read!! the book was well-paced in my opinion, and the characters, specifically cassia, had so much depth to them -they were very well constructed! i also really loved the world itself, and the many creatures and spirits. my only struggle was that i found it difficult to discern all the different creatures, as there were lots, so i hope that future copies or sequels have some sort of glossary for words concerning the world.
i will say, the miscommunication trope was, in my opinion, quite poor and frustrating in the early stages. i also found the progression of cassia and zeru’s relationship to be quite odd and frustrating at points.the reveal of aril being zeru was very rushed too, and i feel there could’ve been a bit more depth to this? it was just a bit odd in my opinion.
overall, i did enjoy the read a lot! its good as a standalone too i think, and doesn’t leave with a cliffhanger for the sequel.
