Midnight's Twins by Holly Race
4.0
The writing style of this book took a little while to get used to but after I grew accustomed to it, I absolutely loved it! Such incredible world building and a really unique view on something a lot of people do… dream!
I found that the relationships between the characters felt relatable, as did the feelings, fears and experiences they had. Although some of the metaphors/life lessons felt a little on the nose, particularly in regard to the main antagonist and secondary antagonist, I still found them enjoyable and engaging. The relationship between the twins was one many can relate to (although maybe not as many may relate specifically to the trauma inflicted from one to another). I thoroughly enjoyed the more minor characters as they all felt fleshed out and individual which allowed me to really get attached to them, only for some of them to be snatched away! Fantasy is as fantasy does or whatever that phrase is!
The overarching plot and mystery surrounding the twins’ Mother and her friends/fellow knights was very interesting and I very much enjoyed how the story unfolded. The pacing was amazing and the glimpses we got of her POV interwoven with the FMC’s felt natural and well placed within the narrative. Although I was able to guess a lot of the twists/reveals, that didn’t make them any less satisfying in my opinion.
I am thoroughly looking forward to continuing this series and can’t wait to see what else is in store for our protagonists!
