The Secret History by Donna Tartt

5.0

2021 Reread: Oh God, so many of the details...I actually think something about Tartt's work has really touched me. Or impressed upon me. Maybe because I read her at such a formative time. It just seems like every time I reread something by her, I find new details eerily resonant with my life. That little tangent about Christopher Marlowe at the end, for example. It's almost a little creepy. I don't even remember reading that the first or the second time I picked up this book, nor do I remember even remotely thinking of Richard and crew when I read Doctor Faustus for the first time, and yet, now I'm soon to apply to study Christopher Marlowe. I wonder if his work appeals to similar people. Or similar readers? Writers? Wouldn't flatter myself by saying so, but it's just funny, I guess. Also, maybe it's just me growing up, but I actually think I might prefer The Goldfinch now. As my all time favorite. But I don't know.

2018: Absolute all time favorite. I'm terrified nothing will ever compare to its devastation.
