The Glass Magician
by Charlie N. Holmberg
Somehow it took me literally months to get through this very short novel, and it also took me months to realize it's because I just didn't feel like a lot was happening, even though once again, this is a pretty simple story without a lot of time wasted on things like description or world-building between action sequences. I'm finding that I really don't like the protagonist here — her weird combination of extreme overconfidence ("I'm going to go face all the big bads in this series all by myself without telling any of the experts who've fought them before, because that way I'm protecting everyone!") and mildly ridiculous romantic diffidence. ("Gasp blush, surely he couldn't like me back, even though literally everything he says and does indicates he does!")
