A Vow So Bold and Deadly
by Brigid Kemmerer
”Harper says scars are a reminder that I've survived something terrible. They're also a reminder that I've been someone terrible.”

*sighs* I feel so bad doing this review.... A Vow so Bold and Deadly was one of my most anticipated books of 2021. And it just wasn't it.
What I wanted and expected to happen:
- Epic fight between Grey and Lilith
- Rhen apologizing to Tycho (and Grey, but especially Tycho) for what he did.
- Brotherhood moments in which Rhen gets the psychological help he needs.
- Steamy moments between Grey and Lia Mara, finished somehow with Tycho, of course after both of them are dressed.
- Iisak. And Nakiis. And more depth and time in their relationship.
- More from the scravers, honestly.
What actually happened:
- Lilith was reduced to a crazy ex-girlfriend killed in basically a page of violence and blood and claws
.
Lilith was back so I expected a lot from this. She was almost killed by Grey, and when she came back she had freaking Nakiis at her side. I expected her to be more ruthless than ever, to make me feel fear when she creeps into the pages. I certainly didn't expected her to be reduced to a crazy ex-girlfriend killed in basically a page of violence and blood and claws
- Rhen was left completely broken and destroyed and mutilated.
- Endless political planning for a war that ended in 10 pages. And actually never even happened cause that wasn't a war.
- Only 5 scenes of Tycho and no explanation for his recent behavior.
- Iisak dead. Nakiis gone. (What was even the point of that?)
- Grey is somehow now bad and a villan? How can you be like that to your own brother?
Do I need to say more? I feel so bad for this cause I've read the series for the first time around the time it came out so I spent at least 2 years of my life with this characters in my head, loving them and rooting for them and let me just say, they did not deserve what happened to them.
It just wasnt't it.
If Brigid Kemmerer ever decides to write a spin-off or a novella about the Iishellasa Forest or about Iisak's and Nakiis's relationship, I wil gladly buy the first copy available. Up until then...
Happy Reading, Everyone!
