Conventionally Yours
by Annabeth Albert
I'm not a huge gamer, so I was a little nervous going into this one that I wouldn't understand it well enough, but that wasn't the case.
This was another hate to love trope, which seems to be super common nowadays, but I love it. It followed Conrad and Alden on their adventure to a gaming convention, where both of them yearn to change their lives. The catch? Only one of them can win.
They set off on a road trip and through a few happenings along the way, it ends up just being the two of them for the majority of the trip. While their painstakingly slow coming around to each other frustrated me at times, it was fun watching the ebb and flow of their relationship. I typically enjoy faster-paced romances, so at times, I found this one to be a little slow and hard to get through, but overall, the pacing worked for the story -- and it was worth it for the end result.
I loved how Alden and Conrad handled their inevitable clash at the convention - from the beginning, we knew only one could win, and as the story went on, how that would go down became even more muddled, but in the end, it was beautiful.
This is a great LGBT+, geeky book that I highly recommend!
