I wanted to like this, but it was pretty boring, characters were not built out very well, and the writing was cringey. This could be enjoyable as a lighthearted mindless summer read but even then there are better options for beach reads.
The friend character was very annoying and unrealistic, and the main characters seemed stunted. The way the author jumped back and forth in time was fine but I didn’t like how slowly things were revealed, making it hard to connect with the characters for most of the book because they were referring to “what happened” but didn’t say more so I wasn’t really rooting for the main characters.
I liked the lake and Toronto settings, and I liked Peter & Annabel as characters which are the 2 redeeming qualities which is why I gave 2 stars.
