In Pieces
by Sally Field
This memoir by Sally Field starts off slow, but after a few chapters in I enjoyed hearing about Sally's personal life and challenges and the rise of her Hollywood career. Almost immediately into the book, Sally divulges how she was sexually abused by her stepfather when she was a child and ongoing throughout her adolescence. She also has a story about a director she worked with, a much older married man who expected her to go along with his sexual advances, and she went along with it, being 23 years old and not wanting to disrupt the movie she was working on and her budding career. Gee, sure would be nice to read a memoir by a woman who didn't have a story like these to tell. This kind of stuff is much more prevalent that most of us would like to think. Sally ends the book with her hard-fought battle to win the role of Mary Lincoln in Team of Rivals. It was a good memoir.
Note: I listened to this on Audible with Sally reading it herself.
