Last Night I Sang to the Monster by Benjamin Alire Sáenz

4.0

Pretty great overall. I liked the content. Liked the characters. I do wish there was more focus on some of the more significant ones. I want to know them more. I did get really annoyed by some of the things the main character said that could be overly repetitive (“that really tore me up”) but I understand the stylistic choice. There were some small pieces that were not realistic (as a therapist, I have my opinions). But overall, I was happy with it. I liked that it addressed trauma and addiction. I liked the character development.
