Missoula: Rape and the Justice System in a College Town by Jon Krakauer

3.0

I would give it 3.5 stars if I could. I'm a fan of Krakauer and decided to read this book because I know he delves into the details. He is also good at building the narrative for the events. My only complaint was sometimes it took a while to get where he was going (though it was obvious for many pages). When I told my husband about this book, he seemed to think, like Krakauer did, that rape isn't something that happens that often but at the end, the author reports how surprised he was to find so many women in his own life who have experienced some kind of sexual assault. Sadly, it doesn't surprise me at all. My only complaint, through no fault of the author at all, is how depressed this book made me about the prospects for my daughter. Will she have to endure this? I hope not - I will do everything I can to prepare her since this is a problem that is not going away any time soon.
