This book echoes the many (often sad) truths in our existence. It just breaks your heart continuously with every progress report where Charlie’s blissful ignorance of his own suffering is shattered by his own development. But even more so in the ones where he started to regress after devoting his altered life to the acquisition of knowledge.

Something to zero in on is Charlie’s realization of the social facet of intelligence. Bodies of knowledge (even the more technical sciences) do not exist in a vacuum, and viewing them as if they are isolated from the more human aspects of life makes them useless.
