The Family Tree by Sairish Hussain

5.0

Even if it is a very sad story the author is telling this book is written beautifully. I remember reading books about family and their struggles as a teenager and never really being able to relate to the (White) characters - this is why representation matters so much! I could see my family and friends in the characters easily, understand the family and the communities' dynamics, the cultural differences to White people and having to navigate through both of these worlds.
Having read this book with my bookclub I've been told multiple times now I was literally like Zahra and I LOVE that for me as I've seen myself in her too! I don't want to give away information about the plot otherwise I would comment every single thing that happened. But to leave it at that: absolutely recommend reading this book.
Looking forward to talk to Sairish Hussain herself about this masterpiece next week!
