I definitely really loved this book and i read it at a good time in the late summer and while trying to get over someone. Because I don’t consume a lot of Irish media it did remind me of derry girls a little and I found myself substituting some of “the girls” with characters from derry girls and I enjoyed this. I also felt like the narration was similar in some ways to my year of rest in relaxation in this very dense description of inner thoughts but in a sort of blasé attitude. The narrator was also very unreliable it felt like. I didn’t particularly like that but I logically wanted to also give her grace as a teenager. I definitely understood why she did what she did and it felt deeply relatable but I also was so frustrated with her for doing it.
Graphic: Homophobia, Lesbophobia, Outing, Abandonment
