Fantasies of the Bookstore by Eben J. Muse
4.0
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✴️ (4/5)
Personal (biased) rating: *6.5/10
To be fair ,,, I did not finish this book… so my review isn’t super fair.
I have ADHD & even with my Ritalin I found a lot of the patterns mentioned became repetitive. I wanted to finish it in one setting, but it took a lot of me tal energy. Cudos to the writers as they showcased great expertise in the topic, and even though this was a topic I’m interested in I wish the language was a bit more flavorful or including personal tangents instead of simply restating/summarizing the books used.
I guess I just had to wrong expectations for this academic publication. I understand the purpose is not for it to be entertaining but rather informational, so I give it that!
Made me think about the power of libraries (both figuratively and physically). Overall good experience and I’d recommend to other writers/ literature nerds!
Just maybe don’t read it at the beginning of the semester when you’re reading world-renowned pieces. *this score is lower due to me being picky about grammar, and I found a few small mistakes while reading it that added to the frustration of me not being able to finish it quickly. This is more of an editor issue, so again: I applaud the author for such interesting documentation and ability to draw from so many different pieces of media/literature.
