The Master and Margarita
by Mikhail Bulgakov
Pretty much the best book i’ve read this year. Even though it was a little hard to keep track of all the people and events that were constantly happening at the same time, I managed to do it quite well and got used to it after a while. The characters themselves are completely absurd, silly, desperate and overall wonderful. They weren’t really people you could relate to but I don’t think they’re meant to be. The only characters I really liked were Ivan, the Master, Margarita and Yeshua Ha-Nozri of course.
The entire Pontius Pilate storyline was brilliant. Even though this is a novel, the sequence felt so much more realistic than anything christianity has produced like ever. The bible wishes it could be this captivating.
This book basically felt like a dream. It’s a brilliant piece of satire that really captures how absurd life in Moscow was in the 1930s. Everything that was told felt (minus the devil, although, who knows?) incredibly real.
