The Restaurant of Lost Recipes by Hisashi Kashiwai
2.5
lighthearted reflective slow-paced
Strong character development: No

Unfortunately this felt formulaic and I wished there had been some more depth. The story takes place over a series of vignettes where customers request the food detectives to track down a dish from their past. However, the reasoning often didn’t seem like a real thing someone would do, and didn’t really lead to any realisation or development. With little character development and no arcs, both the customers and detectives remain static and the point seems instead to describe different dishes you can try to imagine eating. I wish there had just been something more there
