This is probably my 5th re-read. It is still my favorite Sarah MacLean book. The other two in the series, I only have read once each. I wish Sarah wrote like this still. She seems to be on a path to be different and to be edgy with her stories and plots, but she shines so well here in the more traditional historical romance story.
I do wish she’d done a novel for Benedict.
In this book, Calpernica is the main focus. She is plump, a spinster and honestly quite boring, though likeable. As I get older, I kind of hate that she had to almost completely change herself to be noticed. I’d love a book where a heroine does little adventures, but remains kind of timid and shy. Like maybe the adventures are something she does for herself. IDK.
Anyway, happy to have completed this re-read.
