Until They Bring the Streetcars Back by Stanley Gordon West

5.0

What a powerful book. I remember reading this in high school, and it stuck with me all these years. But I felt a need to reconnect to the characters that changed the way I viewed a lot in life. This book outlines abuse from an outsider's point of view. And how he struggles with how to help with out putting her in any further danger. It is a hard read, but man does it hit you in the gut. Not to mention, the way it showed a family that felt the negative side effects from the demise of the streetcars in lue of busses. You might not think the two topics have anything to do with one another, but the have one common factor, Cal, our narrator. And how both changed his life, for the good and the bad.
