Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman

4.0

Eleanor Oliphant is not just incredibly funny but is also honest and relatable. Early in the book, I felt secondhand embarrassment for her but after taking some time trying to "listen" and understand the pain she went through, I just can't help but feel so much for her. She's lovely and it pains me to see her be tormented by lies that tell her she's otherwise.

I really loved how they tackled mental health in this book. The system isn't perfect and professional help can be offensive sometimes, yet it's still important. It also highlights the need for genuine friendships who would be there to support you and walk with you. I'm also somehow glad that it didn't turn out as a romance book (although I would really really want to more about how their relationships went on after some time).

The only thing that didn't work for me was the part that some events felt convenient. I won't mention the parts but I guess you'll get it somehow.
