This book while heavily fantasy integrated is mainly character driven and centered around the romance.
The element of court politics is there within the fairie realm however; the main plot is the love story between Isobel and Rook.
Isobel is a human girl who excels at painting portraits. She is commissioned to paint the autumn prince Rook however in doing so she paints a human emotion into his eyes. This causes the fairie world to assume that Rook has human weakness and it send Rook into a rage. He seeks out Isobel to bring her to the court of fairies to face trial for her depiction of him. Along the way their journey is fraught with adventure, mystery and turmoil.
Overall I really enjoyed this audio book, do I think its the most in depth fantasy book? No. But it was enjoyable, easy to listen to, and satisfying. This author has a beautiful way with words that paint such a vivid image of what is occurring with the characters. The character development was intriguing and the story was well thought out. I also enjoyed Rook's dry fairie humor and laughed at several points throughout the story because of their banter.
Overall this was a great read and I am so glad I found it stumbling through the libby app.
I enjoyed this author immensely and I am looking forward to picking up her other book called Sorcery of Thorns.
