The Wild Girls by Phoebe Morgan
5.0

Four 30-year-old best friends who have been estranged since a mysterious incident of 2 years ago agree to reconnect for the lavish birthday party for Felicity at a safari resort in Botswana. Grace, Alice and Hannah all receive invitations from Felicity for all expenses paid for the party and want to leave the past behind and reaffirm their friendships. However, when the three invitees arrive at the resort after dark, Felicity is no where to be found and they begin to find odd accusatory notes directed at each woman individually. Since they are too embarrassed to reveal the notes to each other, they soon begin to become suspicious and distrustful of everyone while being isolated and alone and also fearful of whatever wild animals could be lurking close by. All these factors cause separation and fatal mistakes turning the celebration into a nightmare.
This book is very reminiscent of books like The Guest List and And Then There Were None which I have loved so I very much enjoyed this thriller also. There was just the right amount of suspense and of course, wishing the characters would be smarter and stop making horror movie mistakes. Definitely made the book hard to put down. The twists were great and I liked the way the author waited until ALMOST the end of the book to go back two years to reveal what caused the estrangement. And then back to the present to wrap the story up and reveal ALL. I thought this arrangement was very creative and laid out well.
