The book follow Jaun "Johnie" Rico who signs up to become a Mobile Infantry in the Army you learn what happens in boot camp once he passes and goes to his first ship we follow his journey and him going back to school and becoming a officer.   All the whilst they are at war with the bugs that attack Terra and kill his mum in Beuno Ares.
