The Tonic by Mayur Sudhakar Sarfare
4.0

Every so often, some books grab you at the beginning and hold you spellbound to the finish. “The Tonic” is such a kind of novel. I find it a historical-political fiction read.
This is a story of two socially and psychologically uncomfortable young, Raem and Masher with a 90’s backdrop. They become a friend and this bond starts comforting each other. One day a magic chocolate (tonic) appeared in their hand and their life takes a 180-degree turn, they get the desired personality and became famous among people. But religious riots in Bombay changed their lives. in present 2017, Reymberg D’Souza, a media magnet kidnapped Raem. Who is Reymberg? Why he kidnapped Raem? To get these answers grab your copy.
The book holds a deep thought and explores many emotions such as friendship, love, courage, and atheism. The author writes on a sensitive topic intertwine of political myopia with religion and how it became a stimulant to create social differences and riots. The author did a commendable job in the narration of the time transition, I find it smooth. The book holds a rich vocabulary which makes it literary fiction. This is a worth reading book.
