Змията и крилете на нощта by Carissa Broadbent, Carissa Broadbent
3.0
I was debating whether this was a 3.5-star read, but it's definitely solidifying as a 3-star for me. Unpopular, I know.
While I liked the overarching plot and the trials were one of the more interesting ones I've read in an YA book, I have some issues with the book.
First, there's the insane amount of info-dumping, especially early on. While it got better the further the book progressed, there were still moments which could just snap you out of the scene. And even with all of that exposition, I was left needing more information on the world, the characters, the conflict... Somehow it had a lot of info-dumping, yet everything felt underdeveloped by the time I was at the end of the book.
Then there's the, well, lack of character growth. I liked Raihn, and Oraya wasn't exactly insufferable, but I think the best developed character was probably Vincent, even though we barely know anything about him.
Furthermore, there was the ending. I don't have issues with predictable endings if the journey is great and it's set up properly, but it didn't feel like that here. Even though this is not a short book, it felt rushed, for a lack of a better word. I definitely didn't care as much as I should have by the end of it.
And lastly, the smut. While it was somewhat spicy, it just wasn't *that* good.
