Prelude for Lost Souls by Helene Dunbar

4.0

Prelude for Lost Souls centers around the town of St. Hilaire, where almost everyone has the ability to talk to ghosts. This YA paranormal contemporary is strange and mysterious, it’s vibe almost addicting. The town is run by the dark shadow they call “The Guild.” Basically Big Brother. I get the feeling we’ve only seen the tip of the iceberg when it comes to them. (We will probably see more of them in book 2.) The narrative focuses instead on the wonderful characters. They were all written so beautifully and their relationships/friendships were so intricate. This book really surpassed my expectations. I was not expecting to fall so in love with all of the characters.

This was a story about found families, friendships, music, and dealing with crushing expectations. It was about people who are lost and stumbling around trying to find their place in the world, and instead, find each other. Definitely recommend.
