A Reflection of Shadows by Anne Renwick

5.0

A young woman forced to live with her insufferable uncle in London instead of her own home in Scotland, at least until her 25th birthday, which is only days away. Colleen has been earning money to fund herself through acting as a sneak thief, she'll need it since she has no plans to marry.

Nick is a scientist and a spy for the Queen. He's seen Colleen racing on rooftops with her cat behind her. Just like a feline, the woman has golden eyes and near-perfect night vision. He's obviously intrigued by her.

When Nick and Colleen find themselves thrust into a situation involving transmutation, forcing a heart to keep beating, a mad scientist and a forced engagement, they know it'll be better to work together.

I found this novel invigorating. Not only does the author give us each a clear idea of who the main characters are but you find that you are unable to put it down. The action is clear and well-written, we can picture each scene as we bite our nails wondering what will happen next and who is at the head of this criminal organization experimenting on animals and poaching on the land Colleen owns in Scotland.
