The Vanishing Stair by Maureen Johnson

3.0

2.5/5
disclaimer: the only reason i decided to put myself through another one of her books was because i've been trying to find some good murder mystery/thrillers. ive read 3 in a row ([b:Truly Devious|29589074|Truly Devious (Truly Devious, #1)|Maureen Johnson|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1498501619l/29589074._SX50_.jpg|49916452], [b:The Final Gambit|58658940|The Final Gambit (The Inheritance Games, #3)|Jennifer Lynn Barnes|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1634068536l/58658940._SY75_.jpg|93463166], and this one) and all have been disappointing, this just happens to be the least disappointing of the three.

before you take the 3 star rating as a sign that it's good - don't. it's not. its okay. its better than the first one, that's for sure. but im also starting to sense a pattern with Maureen Johnson's books : all her endings suck. there's the reveal of some mystery or some minor plot twist towards the end of the book, then 20 pages of bullshit, and then you turn the next page to the acknowledgements and you're wondering where the hell the ending went. i got to the end and i thought it was a joke. not in the "oh my god that shocked me that was so good i want more" type of way. but in the "what was the point of writing this" type of way.

if i had been having positive reading experiences lately, this book would be 2 stars, but this is the best i've read in 2 weeks, and that's saying something.
