Tempting Promises by Corinne Michaels

5.0

I fell in love with the Whitlocks very early on in the first book “Forbidden Hearts,” and they have captivated me in every book since.

In this book, we meet Rowan and Charlotte, two rivals, who cannot stand each other. Rowan was previously in a “relationship” with Charlotte’s sister, that ended badly, causing a mutual hatred between the two. When a weekend getaway thrusts these two characters back together, and forces them together in close proximity, lines begin to blur.

I truly loved Rowan’s character. To others, he often comes across as a playboy, who has no true commitments, or worries to get to him. Despite this, to those who are close to him, and us as readers, you get to see that all that is, is a facade and a mask that is put on for others, stemming from pain and trauma in his past. Deep down, Rowan is such a loving and caring person. When Charlotte is injured and in pain, he drops everything to make sure she is taken care of, and looked after.

Charlotte has been through so much in her life, much like Rowan has. Despite everything, she remains a strong and determined individual. She fights for what she wants, and doesn’t back down without a fight, and thinking through all her options. Never letting individuals get close to her to protect her heart, has been her motto for a long time, but when Rowan shows her the person he really is, she begins to rethink her opinion of him. What starts off as a hatred, turns into a swoon worthy love.

When these two characters finally move past the obstacles in their way, and give in to temptation, you can’t help but root for them. Their chemistry was off the charts steamy. When they are forced together with only one bed, and trapped together in a storm, or any time after they continue to secretly keep seeing each other, the tension, and passion is unmistakable. But there was also so much more to their story. When they started opening up to each other, they were able to communicate and connect on a much deeper, more emotionally connected level that made them fall for each other even harder.
