zasou_reads 's review for:
Burned
by Ellen Hopkins
I don't often do rereads, but I just bought book 2 in the series and given that I read book 1 about 20 years ago, I wanted to reread it before reading book 2. I remember loving book 1 back then. I loved the format (the whole story is in verse form). It's also not a cute and fluffy read, it does contain very dark themes, check your triggers, and although I did not love is as much as I remembered loving it back then, I did still enjoy it. I've read many reviews who criticized the stereotyped way Mormon women were depicted in this story. I don't know much about this religion, I simply read it as family drama, so it did not bother me, nor do I now think that all Mormon women think/are like that.
