A Winter's Promise by Christelle Dabos

2.0

The premise was interesting - Ophelia can travel through mirrors and "read" the history of objects by touching them. However, much of this book feels underdeveloped. After the "rupture," the Earth has split into various pieces that are controlled by various families - after much argument, Ophelia is married off to another land, to the evil Thorn of the dragon clan whose family possesses the power to psychically hurt her without touching her. She finds herself in a strange and inhospitable world where people can utilize illusions to harm her and others and she must navigate unfamiliar politics. Basically everybody is trying to kill her because everybody hates Thorn and his family (and all the clans ultimately want to destroy each other for greater political favor with the deity of their particular land piece) so she has to stay hidden and magical hijinks ensue. Suuuuper stupid plot and the prose was genuinely terrible as well.
