Proust has a knack for stretching what should be mundane into something delightful, even in this volume where he discusses (and denigrates) the ‘vice’ of homosexuality in both acquaintances and lovers. There is, of course, the effusion of bourgeoisie for which Proust is well known and that is all a backdrop of dinners and events to set the stage for his relationship with Albertine.

I should also say that it did not take 15 months to read, but Proust often requires breaks to digest.
