It’s an engaging and well-written book with an interesting set of characters. Al and Birdy are complete opposites of each other, yet they’re also best friends. This childhood bonding is what pulls them out of madness in the end and brings them together again. I liked how the book depicted the effect that war trauma has on the characters but I was missing something in the last two chapters. The description of birds’ habits was sometimes too long, it felt unnecessary to go  into such a heavy detail. But overall a recommendable read!
