A God's Promise by Kayla Maya

4.0

In a God’s Promise we follow Eira and her Familiar Fenrir. Eira is special, different from everyone else, but noone can know. She only has her true wolf Fenrir as a friend and companion and they take thieving assignments to make some money.

When she goes out to get her latest assignment she meets this strange but alluring man. Her entire world gets turned upside down as she gets to know more and more about her world, about herself and about this stranger who pays very good money for the jobs he needs done.

Throughout the story we get to explore different realms, get to know different gods and goddesses and their are even dragons mixed in with magic and lore. The story had a lot of Norse mythology and it is really nice getting to know more about the runes and the lore and everything related to that.

The tension between Eira and the MMC is delicious, but also really innocent. I like how she is both feisty and soft, reluctant but also very hungry to explore. This is a really slow burn, and some of Eira's decisions really don't make sense to me. The character building progresses steadily along the entire story. It is really nice to get to move through all the discoveries and get to know the characters better along the way.

I did find myself getting pulled in by the story, and finished this book quite quickly, but sometimes the flow of the story didn't feel well to me. Like there was a bit too much repetition of Eira's thoughts and the reasoning behind her decisions.

But overal this was a nice read, there might have been a bit more spice for me, but i did like this book and enjoyed reading it. I read this as an ARC reader, my opinions are my own and my review is voluntarily.
