This book hit way too close to home. Teenager with undiagnosed depression, parents that don’t understand her or know how to communicate with her. Not being the golden child in a Mexican family and the standards and disappointment her parents express for not being like the older sister. Her scream for help is years of anger, frustration and not seeing a way out of her situation. It’s how she’s finally able to get some therapy and talk about the loss of her sister, not relating to her parents, etc. she starts to find some beauty in things near the end of the book and her therapist gives her some tools to work on which she actually uses with her parents to try to talk to them.

It’s a good read of what’s going on in a teenagers life and head that’s clouded by severe depression and a major loss. Growing up is hard! Talk to your kids!
