Once We Were Brothers
by Ronald H. Balson
Another favorite genre of mine: historical fiction! A unique and fascinating perspective involving two boys, who were once best friends and non-blood brothers—one from a Jewish family and one who road the coat tails of the Germans as the Holocaust unfolds. As always, I enjoyed the story-telling perspective as the main character describes his current life and recounts his life as a Jewish man during the Holocaust. You simply ache for the main character, and how his “brother” treats him. The story shows how power and greed can corrupt a man. Absolutely couldn’t put it down.
