Heat Wave by Richard Castle
1.0

This one is really more of a one and a half star book. I don't think it was absolutely terrible but it wasn't very good. In fact I'm not sure of many of the details of the book because I was reading without paying attention, that's how boring it was.
So first of all I love the show Castle and it was quite a clever idea to publish the pretend books that Richard Castle writes in the show but the Heat Wave that I just read could no way be the Heat Wave talked about in the show. It's not best seller material and it really reads more like an episode of the show, where Nikki Heat is Kate Beckette and Jamison Rook is Richard Castle. (at least watching the show is more entertaining than reading it apparently.) So in a way this was pretty much Castle fan-fiction and in ways it read like fan-fiction too. All the other characters is the story were just blanked faced dummies with New York accents.
The one good thing I will say about this book is that they did a fairly ok job of getting Nathan Fillions voice and humor kind of down. Some of the humor in the book was down right stupid and couldn't actually believe an adult wrote it but some of it got the Castle character pretty good. Which still isn't totally a good thing because even thought Castle "wrote" the book so it's in his voice, Rook isn't supposed to be Castle. They would have probably created a better book by just writing Castle spin off novels.
I can't say I was disappointed, I read some of the reviews before diving into this one so I didn't have high hopes. I've read a few show spin-off novels and some are pretty bad but sometimes you find a jewel in the rough...this was not one of those times. I'm actually quite stunned that they published so many of the "Richard Castle" novels.
If you love the show Castle, don't bother with these novels, just be content with the show.
