I would give this a solid 3 but the epilogue gave me what I didn't know I needed so it gained another half star.
The language was thick and rambling. Sometimes it felt in the way of the story like I had to clear away debris to get to the main substance. I think the novella's brevity worked in its favor because the language would have been exhausting in a full novel.
The story itself was interesting, I enjoyed the story telling. Not sure I would gravitate to this author again though.
