Scarlett by Alexandra Ripley

3.0

Not close to GONE WITH THE WIND in quality, and Ms Ripley takes over half the book the really start "getting" Scarlett's voice & who she is. The first quarter of the book is generally just a lot of phrases Scarlett said in GWTW, heh. Charleston & Savannah are slight struggles to get through, but the book comes alive in Ireland. Where Margaret Mitchell clearly had great love of Georgia, Alexandra Ripley seems to love Ireland and the Irish deeply, and it comes through. Unfortunately, Scarlett doesn't get to Ireland until over halfway through the book!

And the Scarlett/Rhett story is part of why the book doesn't come alive until Ireland- where Scarlett finally finds herself.

Still, I did enjoy this well enough. It's fun if you let it just be fun. :-)
