I have been trying to read this book since the beginning of the year. The premise - a story around the building of the Panama Canal - fascinated me.

There are multiple storylines and at first this can be confusing and hard to track. But as I read more of the book, I saw more and more how the different storylines came together.

Themes of family and making sacrifices for the ones you love run strong in this book. I appreciated how the author focused on the people impacted by the building of the canal and how their lives were changed.

If you enjoy a character driven story, then this book is for you.

I read this book as part of @thoughtsfromapage’s Traveling Galley program for patreons. Thanks to @eccobooks for providing the galley.
