After absolutely loving Firekeeper's Daughter in 2021, I was so excited to see that Angeline Boulley had a new book out last year. While I'd heard that Daunis (the MC from Firekeeper's Daughter) is mentioned here, I didn't realize how interconnected they would be. This one takes place 10 years after the events of Firekeeper's Daughter and focuses on one of Daunis' twin nieces who are mentioned in Firekeeper's Daughter. Daunis is a side character with many appearances and it's so fun to see her 10 years later. While this could absolutely be a standalone read, it does have a couple big spoilers for Firekeeper's Daughter so I would recommend reading them in order if you plan to read both.

Let me start by asking: why don't I see this around more on Bookstagram?! It's so good. The plot of this one surrounds the repatriation of Indigenous ancestral remains and artifacts and I learned so much about this messed up process. The MC, Perry, is also so wonderful. She's 16 and so full of passion and energy, but it's sometimes misdirected or there aren't enough boundaries so you watch her do things she shouldn't even when her intentions are good. I loved her and her friends so much.

If I had to choose, I'd say Firekeeper's Daughter is still my favorite and this is a close second at 4.5 stars. Highly recommend, and it was really good on audio.
