Slower first half, I felt, but the second half was over in a blink.
I liked this book overall, but the pivotal decision by the main character was utterly void of any kind of character development. Basically, the MC makes a monumental decision without any rationalization, before or after, by either the author or MC. What about the MC's personality or life experiences led them to make such a decision? Who knows. What was their thinking leading up to or during the decision? Who knows. In fact, what thinking the MC does have leading up to the decision is that he'd never make that decision. And then he ends up doing it anyway, completely without justification or logic.

That being said, I enjoyed the book. But the above issue is impossible for me to get over.
