I so desperately wanted this to be a series.

Due to the nature of it being a standalone, a lot of the lore feels a bit glazed over and rushed. This could have easily been flushed out into a trilogy in my opinion.

Beautiful, rich story telling full of characters that you both despise and root for, an antagonist that is truly repulsive, and a reveal that made me gasp. Heklas Children is a beautiful tale of male agony and female fury that is dripping with lore and eldritch horror. It dabbles lightly in body horror, but mainly skirts the edges of folk fantasy, creating a truly unsettling, immersive read that had me hooked from the very beginning.

I highly recommend this, and will definitely be picking it up again.
