90% of this book is just two people rambling along in the middle of nowhere, in terrible weather, occasionally stopping at a roadside pub. It sounds boring, but it totally works.
Michael and Marnie are each living in various kinds of isolation after the ends of their respective marriages. Thrown together by a mutual friend, and a bit of chance, they end up on a coast to coast hike where anything can, and does, happen.
This was listed as a romance, but it doesn’t feel like one. It has vibes of Evvie Drake Starts Over (minus the death) and a Rosamund Pilcher novel, which might be how I would describe my perfect read
