As with most things I give 3 stars to... I'm torn. I loved the concept of this book, and the mixing of science, folk lore and magic was beautiful. However I just found it hard to read it parts - the first third in particular just took a lot of effort, even though I was enjoying the story I could make the words flow as I read them. There are alot of heavy themes, so maybe it was the weight of subject matter slowing me down.
I would have loved a more definitive ending, but as with most books where I want that... the lack of certainty it probably the point.
I found Nao a great character, and loved getting to know her family through her narration. I liked Ruth well enough, but maybe a first person narrative would have made it easier... again though...maybe that's the point 😂
