If Beale Street Could Talk by James Baldwin
5.0
This being the first book that I read of Baldwin's, I think this was a great book to start with. I loved the growing relationship between Fonny and Tish. The evolution of how they interacted as kids to them being adults was realistic and believable, especially since Fonny is a few years older than Tish. I loved the pov in the story, even though it was Tish's it still included everyone in the story. The emotional connection between characters was perfect, I loved seeing the relationships between everyone and loved how Baldwin really gave each character their own feel and completeness to them. Overall, I loved this book, especially the ending. It was open ended but honestly I'm happy it ended that way because there's so much possibility for them.
